Lot of Progress

I’ve been working non stop with the new site, I’ve just finished some major features. I am very proud of the changes and content that will soon be available. I figure, if I’m moving to a better server, why not make the site better too. Obviously the main functioning of the site will be similar but I hope you will enjoy the new stuff.

I’m planning to have the site online Monday the 27th.

Now, my wife is still pregnant, our official due date is the 26th, which I don’t think we will make. I’m hoping to just push a button and have it ready, but I cannot tell the future so don’t worry if plans change slightly.

I’m fighting the clock to get the site online for you and now I know how Indiana Jones felt when that boulder was chasing him down. I can see the light…

best wishes Andrew, and just do what the wife ask of you these last few days. I'm sure she is just as anxious as you are to see the baby. Take care of your family first, then the the site. A happy family makes a happy Andrew Kramer that makes your fans happy.
We will be here waiting here regardless. Who else is there to go to? Think of us as the web blogging paparazzi's. We just sit here waiting for new items to appear just to rant about how great it is and come back for more.. (snap, snap-camera) just testing my flash for when the new site comes online..

take care.

Hi Andrew,
speaking of babys, you could take a look at the little movie I did with my 1 year old girl. My girl had a open heart surgery at the age of 4 months and that film was a way for us to tell her story in a imaginative way. Best luck to you and your wife, can't wait to see the new site and the new tutorials.

Sorry it's in french, but no a lot of talking...

Hey Andrew! Congratulations and good luck with the baby. Also, I'm not sure if you noticed but they people who do the graphics for the Daily Show used your Earth Zoom tutorial tonight for their segment about Iraq. They are doing this all week so hopefully you'll be able to catch it later!

Its so cool to see your effects on such high profile shows! You need to send Viacom an invoice.

currently up to my neck in a major website overhaul as well, so i feel your pain.

Frankly, it really upsets me that these "professionals" so blatantly copy AK's tutorials. It's one thing for an amatuer to use these ideas in their work - but a paid graphic artist?! It's an outrage. Too bad there's no other way to call them out for it except to post a link on this website. I hope the "pro" that made that at least bought some VCP products!!!

It makes me laugh to think these guys are so desperately awaiting another tutorial so they can collect another paycheck. Make 'em wait, Andrew!!!

Oh my god, I lol'ed. Those stupid jerks. All they do is to sit on their buts and copy. Not too hard beeing in showbizz, huh? That was outrageous, seriously. Those lazy jerks haven't even put a personal touch on the intro, and the earth overview/sun-thingy wasnt even very well made..

The tutorials are free and for public use. Even the people in Hollywood are part of the public.

Sad to say, Andrew must have realized this when he contemplated free tutorials to begin with. At least we know where the inspiration and source comes from.

Lets just hope they bought SOMETHING....

Zony,
I think it is obvious they used Andrews tutorial here, but I also think Andrew will be psyched to see his work on network tv, I know I would. Also he has mentioned before that you are free to use any of these tutorials for your own commercial work. It only makes him look better and proves that even pros can learn from the great Jedi master.
Congrats Andrew, on both the child and the success you have going here.
August 21st, 2007 @ 11:52 am
Agreed.
August 21st, 2007 @ 12:17 pm
actually, NASA put together an earth zoom for a superbowl promotion a couple years ago. i can't remember which superbowl it was, but you can google it. i remember freaking out when i saw it and that was over 2 years ago. i kinda stole their version and would tweak the heads and tails of the footage to make it "my own video." imagine my joy when andrew graciously offered a much more LEGAL alternative. :)

What I find amazing about it all is that it's a tutorial and teaches how to replicate the effect from start to finish, but they didn't even bother. They just vid captured the whole sequence and changed the color...

They could have at least used the tutorial to pick a different building and zoomed out of it, not blatantly rip it. Once you get the technique t takes what? 2 hours tops?

Hey Andrew, I just wanted to add my voice to all those who have already said congrats - and to please take your time! Although many of us eagerly await each and every new tutorial, I think we all understand and support you in your REAL priority - the time you spend with your loved ones. Imagine that - a new baby, a new web site - and throngs of nearly-rabid fans. Happy times!

August 22nd, 2007 @ 8:51 pm
They did an earth zoom to a globe for The Real World Sydney as well. It's in the main title at the very end of it. I mean, it's pretty different from what Andrew made in his tutorial, but he might have drawn something from these TUTs. Honestly, I don't know why everyone is getting bent out of shape about people using his tutorials for professional products. In the industry, when you get a job offer and they ask if you can do something in After Effects, you're initial response is yes (as long as you're sure it can be done in AE) even if you don't know how to do it. That's when you search the web for tutorials or similar projects to help you figure it out. People don't have months on end to just play around with stuff until it works. If you're on a deadline, you tap into fellow AE artists and get help.
August 22nd, 2007 @ 9:20 pm
Wow, never thought I'd see the day where people thought self accomplished art would be considered stolen... you guys should realize how hard a lot of this is and that calling it a steal isn't correct. I guess I stole my college education then... especially with that scholarship and all.
August 22nd, 2007 @ 9:36 pm
that..... and he's clearly already said he doesn't care? why is this still being discussed?

August 23rd, 2007 @ 5:24 am
Wow...I feel like the web is an invaluable resource that can be used by beginners and amateurs alike. I thought that the earth zoom on the daily show was a good use of AK's tutorial. While there wasn't much done to change the look, it still was not an exact copy of the footage and worked well in the composition. Many of the other graphics (though most not as flashy as AK's tutorials) were original designs. However, what you have there, carter, is plagerism. It looks like he downloaded the tutorial files, rendered them and called them his own. I question if this guy knows anything about motion graphics or AE. And then he has the gall to place his picture at the end of the reel. If I ever see his face, I'll have some words for him. Anyway, thanks Andrew...keep up the good work.

i mean he didn't even complete the projects properly - no real 3d work there as he has messed it up..

I should just put on my CV - for an example of what i can do please look at the internet... - i can do it all... lol....

P.S - AK has your wife popped yet?

Lee.

Andrew congrats on the deliver of Kramer junior, just one question that I have no answer yet: Do you know if it's posible to work with two projects at the same time and interact with each other and using the same Timeline in After Effects CS2, CS3. I know that if this can be done I sopose to now it but I learn new things every day. I will waiting and searching for an answer and keep up the amazing work that you have done ;)

yoooooooooooooo dude, I'm pretty sure that some time ago Andrew said that he uses Camtasia Studio to record his tutorials. I'm pretty sure it was mentioned somewhere in one of these blogs or tutorials, so someone correct me if I'm wrong.

For all the negative people(those that are mad for other using AK tuts, literaly) out there you need to reed all the post by Andre Kramer before you comment if you look in this blog for a post titled you will find this written by AK himself:

Remember we are a family here.

I know there are many other great videos I have received, so please repost them here for everyone to see. This is your chance to show us your stuff (not literally). And don’t worry, we have all used the free tutorials to make videos ; ) I mean, who hasn’t blown their head off?

Of course I encourage you guys & gals to go beyond the basic tutorials and apply the principals from all of them to your own projects and videos.

On a side note, when I make a free tutorial I don’t mind if they are used professionally or in your own work. In fact I encourage it. If it helps you make some money or win a contest, all the better.

I’ve seen some Video Copilot stuff in news promos, show promos on the BBC, ABC, CBS and many other places on TV. If you have a link to VC in action please feel free to post it here as well.

Remember to keep the videos PG-13, fake violence is okay, of course.

So clearly buying Video Copilot products will only make you a better person, more productive and more attractive to beautiful women OR if you are a female, beautiful Men AND Women ; )
So you know what to do

I was watching your demon face warp tutorial, (which was great by the way) and in it, you said that you can't put the liquify effect on the adjustment layer. After a bit of trial and error, I found a way to: First, apply the liquify effect to the adjustment layer. Next, parent the position of the adjustment layer to the tracking anchor point (pretty sure it's anchor point and not position), that way the adjustment layer follows along the tracking points. After that, click on the adjustment layer again, and in the effects panel, there should be "distortion mesh offset". Alt click the stopwatch or w/e, and towards the bottom of the screen, next to the timline, you should see the spiral that is used to parent layers. Parent the Distortion Mesh Offset to the position of the adjustment layer by clicking the spiral and dragging it to the Adjustment Layer Position. At this point, the liquify distortion should follow the position of the Adjustment Layer, which is following the tracking point; Therefore, the distortion should be following the image.

I hope this made sense, cause I'm horrible at explaining things. I love your tutorials! they help me so much, so keep it up!

My God I can't believe that guy (previously mentioned by Carter) http://youtube.com/watch?v=SpQRLBYKvEA he's literally made almost no attempt at changing them or using the tutorials to make something original, he's just stuck them all togather and called them his own- I have so little respect for those types of people.. This is the kind of thing that makes me dislike youtube so much..

Hmmmm. On the whole issue surrounding the guy Carter mentioned: I think it'd be more constructive to try to encourage him to take the skills learned from the tutorials and apply them elsewhere, instead of just ridiculing him (that kind of attitude gives us a bad name).

Andrew, Monday is looming and I can't wait for the new site! Best of luck and I hope that button is prepped!

Hey Andrew I used alot of your tutorials for my demo. :P I hope you enjoy.
August 24th, 2007 @ 11:42 am
I'm dyin' over here Andrew! Let's get some updates! :)
August 24th, 2007 @ 2:13 pm
Don't think Mr.Kramer will retire(atleast dont hope so!), because it's one of his passions; Sure it takes alot of time, but when you see the startling response one guy can get for this kind of program, is quite inspiring for anyone I believe. Also, Andrew does work with film for a living, I think. So, I think we will see AK along time in the future! Maybe in some years, the site will be renamed to "K and the K" or something! Andrews' son will take over LucasArt or something at the age of 7! ; )

Good luck with your baby and the site, hope everyone works out great!

The video that DigitalFX posted seems very familiar, I thought the purpose of a tutorial was just to learn how to make a rep. of it. Not to copy the entire sequence and call it yours. Where's the fun in that.

Sorry if I offending anyone, But thats how i Look at it.
