Video Copilot MySpace

Bobby Hommel (our resident 3D guy and designer) has put together the Video Copilot MySpace. Hopefully we can reach even more of you video ninjas. Send us a friend request and help us build the army. It’s pretty lonely with him and Tom.

UPDATE: Remember though, we want you here of course!

What do you use more? iTunes or YouTube?

July 12th, 2007 @ 9:37 pm
Nice, will send you a friend request :D
July 12th, 2007 @ 9:45 pm

July 12th, 2007 @ 10:16 pm
sorry about the spam, anyways, it would be an honor to be part of your myspace army, I sent you a friend request. Very nice myspace html-ing bobby! And Andrew, are you the one that is going to be managing/answering emails on the video copilot myspace?

July 12th, 2007 @ 10:24 pm

July 12th, 2007 @ 11:00 pm
eh... Not a fan of myspace...

You should get one of these iPhones! I'm lovin' it!
just laying in bed checking the site...
July 12th, 2007 @ 11:00 pm
I want you guys here too! The myspace is honestly just a way to get you all here in my super-secret plan to take over the world.

Mu ha ha ha ha.....oh.
July 12th, 2007 @ 11:04 pm
myspace is evil
Dustin James
July 12th, 2007 @ 11:27 pm
I understand...

My comment was only to use my new toy again... Kinda like I am again...
July 12th, 2007 @ 11:39 pm
Why make a myspace when this site rocks? How about a youtube account instead? Sorry Andrew, but myspace!!!??? It's going to make this site a lot less personal for us. And it will flood the community with a lot of @#*-holes. I like how involved everyone here is, and you will lose that over time. Gonna sell a lot of dvds though!!
July 12th, 2007 @ 11:49 pm
myspace sucks Oo I stay here!!!!
July 13th, 2007 @ 12:14 am
Don't worry ; )

We do have plans for a YouTube page as well. In fact we have many new additions directly to the site on the way. This is just one of easier things to implement.

iPods, iPhones iTunes are all on the radar...

Remember our good Friend Bobby is heading up the myspace, and I'm here running the website.

This just means more tutorials and more blogging...
July 13th, 2007 @ 12:15 am
Did I mention that YouTube is bigger than myspace?
July 13th, 2007 @ 12:22 am
I look forward more to the youtube since youtube is dedicated to video, which means that everyone on there is interested in video in one way or another. I just don't want you guys to have to filter through a bunch of spam e-mails and messages from porn sites and stuff. It gives you less time to talk to us, the hardcore supporters. We want you all for ourselves!!!

Anyway you can pay my dry-cleaning bill? I ruined a good pair of pants when i saw that Action Movie Essentials 2 is coming out!!!!!
July 13th, 2007 @ 12:26 am
YouTube Rulez! ;]
July 13th, 2007 @ 12:30 am
Well, bobby is taking care of the myspace, I'll be running this show here and I filter new posters and spam on the blog.

I still read all the posts and jump in when I can.

Now that I don't have to do everything around here, I actually have more time to stay connected.

As for your dry cleaning bill, will you take and out-of-state co-party bad-check?

(I stole that from the Simpsons...)

July 13th, 2007 @ 12:49 am
heck no not a myspace!! im telling you, a good smf forums would be great around here. it would bring more ppl for sure, i know i would hang out here and swap ideas and help tips to and from other members.

i say that we take a vote..(not that u have to pay any mind to it)

all in favor of a video copilot forum... say "yeah forum..rock on"

just an idea
July 13th, 2007 @ 12:52 am
My vote would be for tutorials you could download. More than once I have wished I could download these tutorials to follow along with or use for reference. I loved the series you were doing for Creative Cow for that reason. Great info about AE that I could take with me and use later. I am still a huge fan this site and of streaming videos, but it would just be nice to have an off-line version too. Just my thoughts for what they're worth.
brady shaw
July 13th, 2007 @ 1:00 am
hey, what the next tutorial?! and when is it coming out?!
July 13th, 2007 @ 1:13 am
I don't know about the check, but a tutorial on good machine gun fire and bullet holes on different materials would be much appreciated.

Are you going to upload any of your own films on youtube or myspace? I want to see them. I bet they rock.
July 13th, 2007 @ 1:16 am
itunes more than youtube...
July 13th, 2007 @ 1:44 am
I was wondering as well if I could download or purchase the free tutorials on a DVD. The reason I ask is because I am starting an Internship for R&D TV and like most places their work computers do not connect to the inter web. I use your site a lot of times to trouble shoot around problems I have with plug ins and to recall names or short cuts. Can't do that when I'm there, so I wouldn't mind having a hard copy of it. It could be your donations for a forum box set ;)...

I'll be pushing forums till about Dec..

but I wouldn't mind paying for a Hard copy of the already free tutorials, plus I think it'd be a good way to raise money to buy server space to keep your community here. Youtube and Myspace are great but like a lot of people, I really just like here. It's really nice community and your a good host. Tom just can't compete with the AK (that can be your cool nick name)

IDK, consider it?
July 13th, 2007 @ 1:49 am
Let me just say, I have received several requests about being able to view tutorials offline... A solution is near.
July 13th, 2007 @ 1:51 am
Definitely use YouTube more than iTunes... If only because it has more and varied *all free* content, and it's easier to upload stuff etc.

A YouTube channel would be awesome. We could upload our own trails and uses of all your awesome tutorials as video responses.
July 13th, 2007 @ 1:56 am
Well, I prefer youtube too, I'd certainly subscribe + add you to my friends :P.

By the way, I don't know if it's you, but both 'videocopilot' and 'andrewkramer' are already registered on youtube.
July 13th, 2007 @ 1:59 am
It's a cybersquatter!
July 13th, 2007 @ 2:05 am

Im not really a youtube guy, im more into itunes and podcasts. But anyway i think you should create an Youtube page, witch will get more people to your site, so you can make some more money.

But i would agree on the others in here, GET A FORUM SAMDAMMIT :D

Edited: By Andrew with care ; )
July 13th, 2007 @ 2:17 am
cool, good advertising. and that TOM must have a rather big friends list, I bet nobody talks to him though
July 13th, 2007 @ 2:21 am
July 13th, 2007 @ 2:37 am
Forum & youtube please. Thanks Andrew.
July 13th, 2007 @ 2:37 am
youtube :-)
July 13th, 2007 @ 2:51 am
Thanks AK for the follow up to off line tutorials.

Zune Market Place revolution anyone :/

Not really a youtube or itunes person ... I guess I'm the social... all of it... right here. So lonely but so pretty...

I'm not saying don't do either, just stating my place in this world.
July 13th, 2007 @ 2:55 am
MySpace, YouTube. Both blocked by our corporate types here at work. Looks like the web site is my best route in still :(

I hope those new web feature include a forum.
Kevin Rogge
July 13th, 2007 @ 3:14 am
Hello! I use much more youtube than iTunes!
July 13th, 2007 @ 3:15 am
well i fear youtube resolution is too crappy for a tutorial video, specially when you need to see clearly the steps. I would suggest iTunes Videocasts.
Haydn González
July 13th, 2007 @ 4:00 am
iTunes !!!!! ;) by the way, nice myspace layout. :P
July 13th, 2007 @ 4:02 am
Nice Andrew. iTunes all the way. I'm obsessed.
Piotr Piotrowicz
July 13th, 2007 @ 4:06 am
Hey andrew, i use youtube more, but i wouldnt mind itunes, better quality yah? ok i made somthing new, compositing, and would like to ask you if youve ever done heat haze like this effect i made:

i plan to make a tutorial, but thing about it, if you look at alot of fire effects hardly any one ever uses heat haze, i think it adds an extra degree of realism, dont you?

People today is my birthday.I am now 16 and i got for my birthday 4 GB RAM DDR2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!OH Yeah!!!!!
July 13th, 2007 @ 4:33 am
I didn't like the creative cow itunes trail with tutorial 14. It was kind of annoying to switch between AE and iTunes. Flash is nice because it's crisp and small. The iTunes version just never had a nice steady flow. I eventually gave up with it and waited it to hit the site 3 weeks later.
July 13th, 2007 @ 4:33 am
sorry #23 for the above post. If anyone could fix that and delete this one please.
July 13th, 2007 @ 4:34 am
July 13th, 2007 @ 4:49 am
I prefer YOUtube, but I think this isn't necessary. And I don't think that if you will got 2 or 3 more forums, this will be better for anyone. Maybe just I don't have enough time to see this blog, the Utub, myspace and whoknowswhatelse too every day...
July 13th, 2007 @ 5:22 am
Anybody remember winamp? I thought it was the best thing ever when it came out. After classes Id spend hours downloading music.

I agree with all the YouTubers. I think YouTube is better than Myspace. Im sick of all the spam that gets thrown at me.

".....amber wants to be your friend.....kaitlyn wants to be your beast has left you a messege..." hahaha it gets rediculous sometimes!

July 13th, 2007 @ 5:32 am
You mean, those girls aren't interested in me... But I told them the name of the next DVD coming out... Damn you TOM! Damn YOU!
July 13th, 2007 @ 5:45 am

i-Tunes all the way... for now, at least. I'd also like second the motion for offline viewing... something to consider for sure. Great Work!

July 13th, 2007 @ 6:09 am
My vote is for YouTube!
Craig Woolhouse
July 13th, 2007 @ 6:10 am
“yeah forum..rock on”

I think a FORUM on here is a great idea, although it would take up far too much of your time AK and we need you to spend your precious time inspiring us guys with video tutorials and DVD goodies!

YOUTUBE in my opinion isn't very good quality, although I do use it to browse for funny clips, but thats about it. Maybe you should consider or ...YOUTUBE does give you a wider audience I guess, and that's probably what your aiming for.

iTUNES is cool! I would definatly subscribe to video copilot podcasts. *note* The Creative Cow podcasts are way too small (quick to dl but too small to watch) If possible, make them the size of your online video tutorials.

MYSPACE is cool, but as someone else mentioned above, I'd rather this site not be rinsed by emo kids and every TOM, DICK & HARRY! (not sure if you guys in the US will understand the tom, dick and harry term?!) Maybe this is a selfish thing to be saying, but I'd hate to start seeing everyone on MYSPACE showing off there new 'earth zoom' or 'blue planet' effect!!! :(

Peace out,
July 13th, 2007 @ 6:21 am
i really dont like myspace because of a problem thats dominates the world!

your'e searching fr a dishwasher or a new tv screen? you have to choose frome about hundrets of it! No one really knows whats good for you and the possibility you have is just to big.

Same here. Its a cool block, a cool site with lots of nice Tuts ans so one. No i have to visit another side to stay connectd with everything thats a pitty in generel i think.

But good look anyway ;)

greetings from berlin
July 13th, 2007 @ 6:26 am
What abiut Facebook andrew, much better than myspace !?
July 13th, 2007 @ 6:29 am
I know I'm definitely more of a facebook person than anything else, but I do have a myspace account which I use sometimes. I'll put you in my top 8 if you put me there ;)

Actually you'll probably end up there anyway.
But yea, I'm a big fan of youtube (as you will see if you click on my name). And anyone who reads this, check out my stop motion Super Mario Rehab, it's awesome. Also check the Hagia Sophia walkthrough; it was a huge project for my Byzantine history class, film class and compositing class. It's pretty hott!

And I need more friends on youtube. Help me out guys lol
July 13th, 2007 @ 6:29 am
I like itunes, because the quality is usually (not always) much better. And a Podcast? That would be sweet. I'm kinda new to the YouTube Crowd.
The Cool part about a VideoCoPODCast i could actually watch your tutorials on my iPhone, since they don't have a flash player support on it yet! Other wise, put your videos on every website you can... bigger crowds and a lot more fans!!!
July 13th, 2007 @ 6:32 am
Myspace and Google are lost on me. The user experience has really gone downhill, too many people sending out ad bots and false queries on their videos. Though these may generate views, it's not going to build your core niche. Your niche has already found you. A forum is really the way to go. Like Stu Maschwitz DV Rebel forum. A VIDEO CO-PILOT FORUM would be a great way for all your fans to communicate with one another. I'm making a science fiction indie and it would be great to get some additional feedback from peers who understand the indie limitations and approach to filmmaking. It's also a great way to share our techniques with one another as well.
Good luck with the social sites though.
July 13th, 2007 @ 6:52 am
Andrew, u goin to Siggraph this year?
Orc Master
July 13th, 2007 @ 6:58 am
Well, I'm not really a MySpace guy, and I use more YouTube although, apparently, iTunes handles better quality. All I say is, then: WHATEVER ANDREW WANTS!!! :P

Hahaha, I bet those girls were actually Andrew's wife teasing him :P
July 13th, 2007 @ 7:02 am
Itunes.... the resolution on youtube is TERRIBLE
July 13th, 2007 @ 7:15 am
I agree...i hate what youtube does to the rez of my absolutely award winning videos....
July 13th, 2007 @ 7:16 am
oOo. A Youtube page sounds terrrific! (lame, I know) about the myspace, though, I don't personally trust t he site, butthat's cool. Forum and youtube is what I say!! :)

By the way, offline tutorials sound awesome too. I can watch em' on the road with my laptop!!
July 13th, 2007 @ 7:18 am
Also, forgot to mention, but if you had an AIM account. OMG!! That would be great.
July 13th, 2007 @ 7:18 am
use youtube a lot more, rarly on itunnes
July 13th, 2007 @ 7:22 am
Sorry Andrew, myspace sucks. I prefer be here than in an evil website. HERE TO STAY!
July 13th, 2007 @ 7:32 am
Hey Andrew,

I wanted to say - I just got Sound Designer FX for my birthday this week and I love it! I've already put together a spec TV spot for my friend's sports collectibles company that he is forming.

Maybe you could add a page on this site with links to people who are utilizing your techniques and products - so we might all see what others are doing - maybe even share some procedures of our won.

Just a thought.

P.S. I thought you were at least 30 (you young pup) - man, do I feel old.

July 13th, 2007 @ 7:48 am
Actually pete, he's got the gallery page, remember?
July 13th, 2007 @ 7:56 am
I've added you some time ago to myspace, but i don't really like it, don't really know why, but....
about youtube, I always thought that it was weird that making searchs about "videocopilot" or "Andrew Kramer" give me only fan made thing or fan uploaded results, mostly because I really think that you should obviously have had your own youtube channel.
And about the "youtube - iTunes" thing.... I check the creativecow podcast, but i think that's all in iTunes...
July 13th, 2007 @ 8:26 am
i actually found VCP through iTunes. i got a free iPod when i bought my G5, and when i decided to check out podcasting i saw the assisted suicide tutorial and with it the holy grail of AE tut sites.

so i'd go iTunes, because then i can throw tutorials on my iPod. for what it's worth on the site, though, i'd stay in flash.

i'm on facebook, so you should set up camp there instead. :P
Jacob Aaron
July 13th, 2007 @ 9:02 am
I'll send a request as soon as possible! I use youtube to search for some cool videos although I use Itunes to download podcasts which is more organized.
July 13th, 2007 @ 9:05 am
Youtube for me, is more of funny clips and stuff like that (music videos)..but I know that it have grown a lot!

But I vote for itunes! Which I'm more use to, better quality and people can get it right on their ipod's.

July 13th, 2007 @ 9:09 am
Hey! offence but I really hate Myspace and that is why I dont have one. YOUTUBE! YOOOOUUUTUBBE is the way to go!!!

July 13th, 2007 @ 9:13 am
Hi Andrew: I would put my vote in for iTunes...the resolution is much sharper, and the end user has greater control over pause, rewind, etc. Plus the file is stored in your iTunes library so it can be referred to easily. Somebody posted earlier about paying for hard copies of the free tutorials; I would second that... I'd buy a collection of your tutorials on DVD for sure!

PS: What's the difference between the names in blue and the names in black?
July 13th, 2007 @ 9:14 am

have a nice weekend!!!
July 13th, 2007 @ 9:40 am
I too vote for iTunes for the reasons already stated (better resolution, offline viewing, transfer to iPod) over YouTube, though I use both on a daily basis.

Justin Mosley
July 13th, 2007 @ 9:40 am
Youtube! I use myspace too. However, I hate to say it but... I'm scared of what might happen to this site if the community sky rockets to billions!!! I really enjoy the personal atmosphere this site provides. The best part about this site is that the host genuinely cares about his students. Business is business though, so I say go for it Andrew! I wish the absolute best for you and your company... just don't become a mega millionaire and forget us :)

July 13th, 2007 @ 9:47 am
Hey all, just thought I'd post again (since my one and only post so far was an offhand remark about the Big Dipper two tutorials back). In response to a lot of the debate going back and forth about myspace, facebook, youtube, itunes and all, I have to say I'm on all of them so it doesn't really matter one way or another. I will agree that Itunes has much better quality and resolution than anything Youtube provides, and using myspace opens you up to a lot of spam and wannabes. Of course, I myself was probably considered a wannabe about a little over a year ago when I stumbled across this page, so I'm not sure whether or not I can complain.

In regards to hard copies of the tutorials, I'm all for that. But until that time, I can work my way around that by using a video screen capture device and add the audio captured separately in using my editing software, then export it out however I wish (like an m4v for Itunes). Yeah yeah, I know, lots of work, but for now its something until AK gives me a better option.

Unfortunately for me, I have been away from school for the summer, and thus away from the more powerful computers, because currently my little laptop doesn't have the processing capabilities to handle most AE operations. Regardless, I'm psyched about the upcoming AME2 and RG2, and anything else you can throw our way. Until then, my hats off to you Andrew.

July 13th, 2007 @ 9:53 am
Hey Andrew !!!!

I think instead of myspace I will go4 myFavorateSpace=VIDEOCOPILOT ---- hahahaha :)

Youtube is much better than MySpace.

Going off topic is it ok if I call you one of the following:
The Krame-enator
Sir Kramesalot
Teh Krameage
Count Krameular
Master Kramesworth
or Phil
... Either way I refuse to call you anything else.

Happy birthday Harrison Ford!!:D

July 13th, 2007 @ 12:28 pm
MySpace is probably a decent marketing move, however - it's functionality and LOOK is the worst on the web...

I use iTunes religiously - your Creative Cow stuff was great (until you stopped) :)

A weekly podcast (with lite ads) would be another way to monetize your art. And, with your community of followers, I suspect you'd be quite successful - If that's what you're after... :)

peace [m]
July 13th, 2007 @ 1:19 pm
Facebook > myspace. Myspace is too junked up, they tried to expand into new things so fast that they ended up creating a huge spam fest. Facebook took their time.

You tube is great.
July 13th, 2007 @ 3:11 pm
I use youtube
July 13th, 2007 @ 4:38 pm
I think that people don't realize that this is still going to be the place to go for tutorials. Yes youtube has low resolution, but why would you all of a sudden start watching the videos on there instead of here?. This is still the site to come to to watch tutorials,. It is not supposed to be a replacement. Itunes is o.k, but I will never use it, and I know a lot of peopple who won't either. Youtube is built for a video COMMUNITY so it is perfect. I spent a whole lot of time on youtuube, so I am looking forwards to getting messages in my inbox that say "new tutorial" Then I go to this site and watch! itunes has no communtity to speak of. At least not a decent one.
