Research and Development!

Here are some shots in the field as we prepare for a new product involving Guns, Explosions and lots of Blood. Real Clouds 2?

Don’t expect this one for a while, there is just too much planned. Actual filming should begin early 2008.

Thanks to Sammy for the photos. Sorry about your arm ; ) JUST KIDDING!

Note: All production is supervised by local authorities and professionals. We take this production very seriously please be safe.

UPDATE: The guns are used to simulate real physics when we shoot blood packets. We are also using small explosives, and much more. Everything is supervised by professionals, one of our FX personnel has worked on some pretty big productions too.

Did I says HD 60p… Gosh, I need to shut up!

Two thumbs way way up there for more of this stuff. AME2? Can’t wait.

The “Sorry about the arm” comments reminds me of a scene from “The Jackal”

be warned though. The PAL versions of these gunshots will be difficult to shoot as we (in the UK) have different firearm laws over here! ;-)

July 11th, 2007 @ 9:11 am

sorry for your friend, but i guess it’s worth it if you sacrifice your arm in order to get a cool stream of blood!

July 11th, 2007 @ 9:14 am

Same with what Bas said, how did you do the action movie essentials? did you shoot behind a green screen with some amazing chroma key programs that can even trace particles? please tell me! its my 8th wonder of the world.

July 11th, 2007 @ 9:18 am

How about a Horror Movie Essentials???? I’ll pre-order right now!!

Kyle Shields
July 11th, 2007 @ 9:31 am

Shooting guns is always fun, lol that rymes.

Flim by Tim Productions.
July 11th, 2007 @ 9:36 am

hey Mr. Kramer I have an idea of how to get good gunshots I am not sure if u have done this previously but record at a high fps and then shoot a gun but make sure there is a green screen behind the gun and then u could just take out green and there u would have a good gunshot

July 11th, 2007 @ 9:42 am

Andrew you rock man, I can’t wait for a new action DVD!!!

July 11th, 2007 @ 9:45 am

OMG!!! NEW AME. OMG IM GAONNA BUY IT I SWEAR!!!!

Ben
July 11th, 2007 @ 9:48 am

how ever I do not have any of your products, my cusion dose, I have used many of them and enjoyed them alot, but with the blood bursts i really only use # 7 and 8 so you should make more in that type of style.

S. Gilbert
July 11th, 2007 @ 10:53 am

Hey Andrew,

Well being that your in the making of a new disc can you somehow simulate squirting blood? like for example if someone where to have his arm blow off and blood squirting out… Maybe w/ diffrent angles too. Last time I cut my actors arm off we only got one angle and had find another actor who looked axactly like him and cut his arm off but the camera malfunctioned and we had to find another one it wasn’t pretty, anyhow, looking foward to it I’m sure it’ll be real cool.

S. Gilbert

Stan: Oh my god you shot Sam!
Kyle: You Ba***rd!

hmmm, possibly Horror Movie Essentials???

Can’t wait for Porn Movie Essentials…..well maybe I can…….second thought I might make that collection myself…..well not “BY MYSELF” but with some help…….oh nevermind……

July 11th, 2007 @ 11:20 am

Andrew,
If this is how you do R&D for your projects …then answer me this.
What R&D could you have possibly done for Tutorial 13: Assisted Suicide?

lol

July 11th, 2007 @ 11:26 am

# Helge Says:
What happened to Sammy? I bet you missed the target…

I didn’t Miss ; )
-Andrew

Just Kidding! Nobody got shot! Just a big Joke!

For some of the the blood we are using small explosives, for some we are you blood packs that will be shot by actual guns. We will have blood in more ways than you can imagine. We will be firing over 20 firearms to give you the most realistic muzzle flashes ever!

I love the first AME, but part 2 has a budget!

AK out.

July 11th, 2007 @ 11:48 am

Lol, not sure how much blood and explosions I really need but… who am I kidding i’ll find places to use them i’m sure ;-)

Zack
July 11th, 2007 @ 11:52 am

I hope it has more blood and explosions. Action movie essentials didn’t have enough variations. But still a 5 star product

Dustin James
July 11th, 2007 @ 12:15 pm

sounds great…

blood from 300? or will that be with RG2?

July 11th, 2007 @ 12:20 pm

TEASE!

cool. can’t wait to see action movie essentials 2.0 (or whatever project X is called). looks like fun.

blow some glass up, while you’re at it. i need some bulletholes in glass & don’t want to shell out the $ for artbeats. :D

July 11th, 2007 @ 12:27 pm

This is exactly why Starbucks just won’t cut it. Much cooler than pre-matted mocha coffee drips and such. Did Sam get out of line again? I can forsee a folder on the DVD called Sam Loya’s Blood Splatter. “It looks real ’cause it is.” could be the slogan. I can’t wait for this one. Do you have an estimated cost yet? Glad they are in HD. This gives us a lot more flexibility, even if you aren’t editing in HD.

Jammin’ JJ
July 11th, 2007 @ 12:28 pm

Is this shoot just as professional as the one at the mall?

July 11th, 2007 @ 12:29 pm

R.E. Dustin James-

The 300 blood was made custom using a particle system I believe. Children of men however used a very similar method of overlaying pre-matted bullet holes, blood, and explosions.

July 11th, 2007 @ 1:03 pm

Are you gonna use squibs? Send me the video! I wanna see how a squib works. I’m going to a firing range in 2 weeks or somethin’ I’m going to record it.

Pierre
July 11th, 2007 @ 1:11 pm

Don’t forget the bullet passing through water…
Great.

July 11th, 2007 @ 1:40 pm

I nominate Andrew as hottest visual effects artist. In both ways.

Kris S
July 11th, 2007 @ 1:48 pm

should be able to do some cool tricks w/ that 60p footage –
nice! – i will just practise w/ AME for now.
Id like to see how to cut someones arm off and have the left over stumps squirt juicy n` deliciously tasty red velvet blood like in Kill Bill and not like in Monthy Pythons holy grail.

(cant think of anything clever to finish this off with)

sam
July 11th, 2007 @ 2:02 pm

andrew i told you i want to join your team man iam in orange county man i have all the crazy ideas you want .iam your gurillawar fare man you name it i’ll do it.

July 11th, 2007 @ 2:07 pm

looking forward to it. Am i guessing there will be a sequal for all the original dvds

Some Guy
July 11th, 2007 @ 2:25 pm

The guns are used to simulate real physics when we shoot blood packets. We are also using small explosives, and much more. Everything is supervised by professionals, one of our FX personnel has worked on some pretty big productions too.

Sounds interesting. Can we get some Behind the Scene Footage?

July 11th, 2007 @ 2:40 pm

Andrew, you almost look like MacGyver when you stand there with your gun:D God I just love your face expression, and don’t get this wrong. MacGyver is awsome (just so you know I’m straight) :P

Great work AK!

Best regards, Max Marklund!

July 11th, 2007 @ 2:44 pm

Tino looks cool too:D, raw! Because it is Tino, right? I’m not 100% sure.

MM.

July 11th, 2007 @ 2:51 pm

The second shot is my younger brother. He’s going into the police academy pretty soon.

And and for the glass we have you covered…
COVERED IN GLASS HA! HA! HA! Sorry.

Behind the scenes footage is a definite.

July 11th, 2007 @ 2:54 pm

Will be quite a treat seeing the AE master firing a gun rather than digitally editing it.

July 11th, 2007 @ 3:06 pm

The police academy, sweet! So he’s the one firing the gun in real life and you’re the one doing it behind the computer:D Hehe.

MM.

July 11th, 2007 @ 3:25 pm

Well, the Glock 23 in my hand is registered to me. We have both had professional training from the SWAT team and we take it very seriously.

I will probably include some behind the scenes footage for the purpose of staging the reactions. This way you can see and compare how much ‘kick’ is involved and how to react when using AirSoft weapons to simulate real firing.

Remember, even AirSoft guns need to be treated as real firearms and all the necessary precautions should be undertaken by professionals.

Safety, always.

July 11th, 2007 @ 3:31 pm

Yes of course. Well I have as long as I’ve been on VideoCopilot always got the feeling that you guys are very serious and professional which I know you are. That’s why I’m here, and of course because I just love your humor:)
Great products and tutorials man!

MM.

Gary
July 11th, 2007 @ 3:40 pm

Hope you post some more about this product during the summer. Are there going to be real explosions, cause that seems pretty hard. If not, please get a grenade explosion.

Digital bullets slow-motion like in the matrix would also be great!

Please do an access behind the scenes thing on your site to customers, like the 300 presets. I actually kept the order number from DSFX this time just in case.

July 11th, 2007 @ 3:44 pm

Almost everything will be live action!

July 11th, 2007 @ 3:58 pm

I think another good idea that would go along with this theme is long streams of blood that could be composited as if flying off a body. Similar kind of to the sweat you see coming off a boxer in a Rocky movie after they get punched and their head swings to the side. That’s about the best way I can describe it, but with blood.

nathan
July 11th, 2007 @ 4:13 pm

Dude you kick so much freaking arse!! Keep up the good work!

July 11th, 2007 @ 4:57 pm

Oh my god Can’t wait.

I love the ‘Action’ Type FX, eg. AME!

Great work Andrew! I’ll have to post some work I have done with AME to show you :)

“AK Out”, um ok Seacrest….rofl.

July 11th, 2007 @ 7:43 pm

AME 2? That’s too awesome! Thanks for your hard work Andrew. I really appreciate that autograph. When ever I become a famous director I’m certainly going to hire you for visual effects.

July 11th, 2007 @ 7:55 pm

“And and for the glass we have you covered…
COVERED IN GLASS HA! HA! HA! Sorry.”

zing!

can’t wait for the BTS. should be a welcome tool to the stu maschwitz-type action movie arsenal. i can’t wait to stage a big CG gunfight just to play with all of this stuff.

it’ll be fun to mix it with some of the stuff from detonation films. their selection is pretty solid, the quality so-so, but the price can’t be beat.

still, AME rocks the casbagh & i’m down for the sequel whenever it comes out.

Scott
July 11th, 2007 @ 8:49 pm

Hi Andrew!
Technical question:

How on earth do you get HD 60p? If that your JVC 200? I didn’t think so. Or did you get RED? Please answer and I am working on a project with a lot of slow mo, but all the prosumer HDV cams are up to 60i not p ;(

July 12th, 2007 @ 3:13 pm

JVC HD200 is 60p, but we’re not using this camera… or RED

Alexey Pekarin
July 12th, 2007 @ 9:42 pm

Do you mind me asking which one than? ;)

Jay Mayor
July 13th, 2007 @ 1:53 am

I noticed in your intro video on the site where the “indy” guy (I believe it’s Tino) gets shot. There is a bullet streak that appears for a split second to simulate the bullet traveling to his arm before the blood splatters. That same effect is also present when Sam gets shot multiple times.

Will the bullet streak effect be in Action Movie Essentials 2?

Helge
July 13th, 2007 @ 6:30 am

I really hope there are some good sound effects in this one! guns etc..

Orhan
July 13th, 2007 @ 11:46 pm

Jay, the bullet streak can easily be achieved with after effects using masks and perhaps some effects.

Alexey Pekarin
July 14th, 2007 @ 2:33 pm

Gees guys. Create a bullet from solid using mask tool. Animate it travelling all the way like in 3 frames and apply motion blur. That’s it.
